Cardiology Science Lunch

CSLB : The Cardiology Science Lunch Berlin

The Cardiology Science Lunch aims to promote scientific exchange between translational and clinical researchers. Nested within the premises of the Campus Virchow Clinic, the weekly meeting offers a platform for dicussion to experimental and clinical scientists in the cardiovascular field from Charité, German Heart Center Berlin, Max-Dellbrück Center and research-undertaking or research-applying partner organisations. In addition, external keynote speakers with long-standing expertise in their respective field are invited on a regular basis. The chosen informal format of the meeting is meant to encourage interaction between speaker and attendees. Presentations include a wide range of topics in experimental pathophysiology and clinical cardiovascular science with emphasis on heart failure and arrhythmias. As the majority of attendees are (also) working as clinicians translational aspects and potential clinical impact and implications are addressed as appropriate.

Scientific Organizers:
Prof. Frank R. Heinzel, MD, PhD

Scientific Board:
Prof. Burkert Pieske, Charité / DHZB
Prof. Philipp Stawowy, DHZB

Next CSLB - 08.09.2021, Mitochondrial Function in Hereditary Cardiomyopathies

Prof. Dr.med. Sabine Klaassen Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology, Charité

Mitochondrial metabolism including the Krebs cycle and the respiratory chain critically depend on the phospholipid cardiolipin (CL). Inherited defects in the biogenesis of CL causes Barth Syndrome cardiomyopathy. In a mouse model and patient iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, Dr Dudek and his team reveal the metabolic and cellular changes in metabolic flux towards increased metabolism of amino acids, and partially compensatory changes in mitochondrial energy and redox homeostasis.
